How to Use Brillia LED Light Engines
Luminaire manufacturers need to carefully consider critical measurement points on Brillia LED light engines, LED modules, and LED drivers when working with them in their luminaires.
It is important to take into consideration:
- Thermal considerations including critical measurement points on around LED light engines, LED modules, and LED drivers
- Brillia datasheet maximum temperature measurement values and how they relate to luminaire performance and warranty
Temperature measurement points:
The most important factor in the life and performance of LED light engines is maintaining proper thermal conditions. When the luminaire is in operation, it is important to maintain the temperature on and around the LED driver and LED module at or below the recommended maximum levels. Brillia documentation is configured to assist manufacturers on how to design to proper performance targets.
- Brillia LED modules feature a specified Ts point on the datasheet. This point is called the solder point temperature, and allows calculation of the internal operating temperature of the LED package, known as Junction Temperature (Tj)
- Exceeding this value would overheat LEDs and lead to decreased life and performance
- The measured value of this Ts point when installed and operated in the luminaire should not exceed the stated maximum. Exceeding this maximum will void warranty and decrease LED lifetime and performance.
- Brillia LED drivers feature a specified TMP point on the datasheet. This point is called the temperature measurement point, and corresponds to maximum case temperature of the LED driver.
- Exceeding this value would overheat critical electronic components and potentially lead to decreased life and performance
- Additionally, Brillia LED drivers specify a maximum ambient operating temperature (air temp surrounding the driver) value on the datasheet
- This represents limits for proper lifetime and performance
- The measured value of this TMP point as well as the max. operating temperature when installed and operated in the luminaire should not exceed the stated values. Exceeding these maximums will void warranty and decrease LED driver lifetime and performance.
